Here at 2009 RSA Conference

It was warm today in San Francisco! And I walked a lot, so my shower was just the thing to get me energized for updating my blog.

The RSA Conference is considered to beĀ THEĀ annual computer and network security gathering for everyone in my line of work. That includes vendors, government, and the press. It also has a strong international participation. I’ve come to many and it’s fun to bump into people I’ve worked with over the years.

Today I went to four sessions and I have a lot to share with you about average Internet security. Some good stuff, and some not so good stuff. But before I share specifics, I want to define a term: An “endpoint” is any computer or device that’s connected to the Internet. Traditionally, this has meant a PC running Windows (or Mac OS X or Linux). These days it also means Internet-enabled mobile phones (like the iPhone) and in the future even our refrigerators will be an endpoint.

So now you know your Internet-connected computer is an endpoint. And, how it’s configured makes a difference in your safety and security.
