Choosing the best anti-virus program

Here’s an organization doing something I think is very useful: AV-Comparatives, a European (Austrian) non-profit organization, provides the results of their independent anti-virus software tests free to the public.

I reviewed their methodology document and I like their overall approach. They generate revenue by collecting fees from the organizations that submit products for testing. However, I their credibility would increase with me if they obtained the software they test from normal distribution channels rather than directly from the vendor.

They release a test report about every six months. I recently reviewed their February 2009 report. Among other interesting facts is that some free AV programs score just as well as those for which you must pay an annual fee.

  1. Personal Antivirus Removal Says:

I check the AV-Comparative site out. They have no cleaning results posted as of yet. Up front protection is probably the most important thing but close to that is how well the program can clean threats. I would not relly on this report untill I saw those results.

It will be very interesting to see and Personaly I will be checking back to see the results.
